Dr. Denise Vadala-Barbour, DVM
Dr. Barbour is a 1994 graduate of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to and during her veterinary training, she held diverse jobs related to the veterinary field including; working with horses, serving as a veterinary assistant in a general practice, at an emergency vet clinic, and work with birds of prey. She wanted to be a veterinarian her whole life and through her varied exposure to the veterinary world, she knew that this was her calling. She enjoys many aspects of her job, including medicine, surgery on dogs and cats, and some exotic animal work. Her favorite aspect of the job is being able to work in a practice in a small town so she gets to interact with animal patients and get to know their families.
Currently, Dr. Barbour’s personal menagerie includes her husband (the office manager), her cousin Petey, two cats, 3 parrots, five Bourbon Red turkeys, 20 chickens and three Border Collies; Angus, Blaze, and Blitz. They are helping Dr. Barbour learn how to herd sheep. Her hobbies include learning the piano, reading, camping and keeping tabs on her flock.
Dr. Martina Midkiff, DVM
Dr. Martina Midkiff grew up in Cary, North Carolina. She and Dr. Barbour were classmates at NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated together in 1994. Since that time she has enjoyed working as a small animal practitioner in the greater Raleigh area. She joined the Crepe Myrtle family in 2000 and considers it her home.
She currently lives near Willow Springs with her husband, two dogs, three cats and seven chicken. She is a self proclaimed "homebody" who enjoys gardening, carpentry and playing with her pets. She loves the outdoors and enjoys camping, hiking and photography.
Mickey wears many hats at Crepe Myrtle Animal Hospital. A normal day may have him as the hospital manager, IT guy, human resource officer, veterinary assistant, inventory control manager, and/or head pooper-scooper. Jack of all trades, master of none, when not putting out fires at work, he enjoys hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, cooking and ham radio.
Gail joined Crepe Myrtle in August 2008. When not working, she is busy taking care of her husband, step-son, adopted daughter, three dogs and two chinchillas. Gail enjoys camping, going to the mountains and cooking.
Jenn joined the team as a veterinary assistant in August of 2015. A lifelong resident of Harnett County, she enjoys spending her time with her three dogs, cat, and leopard gecko while she prepares to go back to school.
